Something that helps us is that I teach the children how to fold and put away their own laundry at the age of three. They love it and think they are such big boys. As they get older their responsibilities increase. My 5 & 6 year olds fold all the laundry (including linens) and put it away. One of my friends has a great system that you and I might benefit from when our kids get older - she just yells "DRYER!" when the load is done and the kids collect their clothes, fold them, and put them away.
